Tallahassee State College

Postsecondary Education and Training

As a longtime partner of The Able Trust, Tallahassee State College (TSC) recognizes the outstanding potential of students with disabilities and provides quality postsecondary education options and career training to fit each student’s needs and interests.

The TSC Student Accessibility Services Office, The Able Trust and Project10 Transition Education Network recently partnered on the fifth annual TSC Transition Fair, bringing High School High Tech students from Leon, Madison and Wakulla counties on campus to visit.

“At Tallahassee State College, we are committed to creating pathways to success for all students, and the Transition Fair is an important part of that,” said TSC President Jim Murdaugh. “Partnering with The Able Trust allows us to provide valuable resources and guidance to high school students with disabilities, helping them explore opportunities for higher education and career training.”

At the half-day fair, students met with TSC staff as well as representatives from Project10, the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST), and the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD).

Students indicated by participating in the TSC Transition Fair, they learned about financial aid, counseling services and other resources, and the wide variety of programs TSC offers. Some of the programs they expressed an interest in included nursing, occupational therapy and computer coding.

“This event is an important opportunity for High School High Tech students to learn more about postsecondary programs they may want to consider as they think about their future career goals,” said High School High Tech state coordinator Coleen Agner. “We at The Able Trust are thrilled to be able to work with our partners at TSC and Project10 to facilitate a great experience for these students each year.”

After a tour of TSC, Agner led the students in the Marshmallow Challenge, an activity during which they worked together to build a structure using marshmallows.

During the activity, they discussed the importance of a strong foundation of support that is needed to build successful futures. The TSC Transition Fair was a great example of the resources they have available that will help them gain access to postsecondary education.

“I learned a bit more on how college really works,” said Leon County High School High Tech student Jack S. “Originally I hadn’t fully wanted to go to college, but now I’m thinking more about it. TSC seems like a great place.”

“We are proud to host this event and to work alongside organizations that share our dedication to student success and workforce development,” said Murdaugh.

Students with disabilities from Leon, Madison and Wakulla Counties had a great time learning about all Tallahassee State College has to offer and participating in enriching activities at the fifth annual TSC Transition Fair. TSC, The Able Trust and Project10 Transition Education Network partnered to facilitate the event.
