YLF Alumni Update

Where Are They Now?

Jennifer - YLF 2002 Delegate

Jennifer is graduating from Lakeland Senior High School in the spring of 2003. She is currently working at Winn Dixie and Papa John's. In her spare time she enjoys writing stories and poems and running.
Jennifer said that she learned a lot about services that are available to people with disabilities at last year's YLF and made several good friends.
"YLF has meant a lot to me for many different reasons. I guess it helped me feel more confident about myself and being bold. I now have new and better friendships as a result," Jennifer said.

Steven - YLF 2002 Delegate

Steven is looking forward to graduating from high school in the spring of 2003. He is currently involved in the High School/High Tech program and is looking to pursue a career in the high tech field. When he is not at school, Steven enjoys bike riding and computer games.
Steven said that the YLF has taught him how to become a good leader and how to encourage others to be leaders as well.

Rebecca - YLF 2002 Delegate

Rebecca began attending Santa Fe Community College after graduating from Hawthorne Senior High School in 2002. She volunteers at Shands Pediatric Occupational and Physical Therapy Center. When she is not busy with school and volunteering, she enjoys softball, outdoor sports and being around people and children.
Rebecca said she learned a lot at the 2002 YLF. "I have learned how to be myself around other people and that there is help available for people with disabilities."

Delaney - YLF 2002 Delegate

Delaney is graduating from Escambia High School in the spring of 2003. After graduation, she will attend Pensacola Junior College where she received a scholarship. In her spare time, Delaney enjoys cheerleading, acting, dancing, talking to friends, meeting new people and playing with animals.

Delaney said she learned many important things at YLF, but perhaps the most important lesson was "Don't judge someone by their appearance, you can do almost anything if you try."

Anthony "Tony" - YLF 2001 Delegate

Tony is graduating from Cooper City High School in the spring of 2003. After graduation, he plans on attending Broward Community College where he would like to pursue a career in computer science. Tony is working at Broward Community College as a computer technician. When he is not at school or work, Tony enjoys hockey, skateboarding, surfing, computer and taking cruises.
Tony said that an important lesson he learned at YLF was how to advocate for himself. "YLF was fun and informational," Tony said.

Scott - YLF 2001 Delegate

Scott graduated from Eastside High School in 2001 and is currently attending Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, basketball and baseball. Scott also dreams of becoming a professional golfer someday.
Scott said "The Youth Leadership Forum is a great place to meet other people with disabilities and you get to have a blast while you are up there."

Amanda - YLF 2001 Delegate

Amanda is graduating from Rutheford High School in May of 2003. After graduation she plans on attending Gulf Coast Community College where she would like to pursue a career as a veterinarian. She is currently working as a bookkeeper and file clerk for the Lawyers Title Agency.
In her spare time, Amanda enjoys reading, shopping, traveling, taking pictures and spending time with animals.
Amanda said "I learned that there are many different opportunities and support out there for Americans with disabilities. I also learned that I can make a difference in the world by having a voice in our government and just being who I am."

Aysha - YLF 2001 Delegate

Aysha graduated from Pinellas Park High School in the spring of 2002. Since graduation, she has attended St. Petersburg Vocational Tech where she took classes in commercial art and jewelry making. Aysha continues to work at Winn Dixie and in her spare time enjoys art, clay making, painting and helping others.
"(At YLF) I get a chance to meet other people with different disabilities which motivates me to accept my own disability. I formed friendships with these people and it is like my family away from home. I look forward to coming to YLF every year," Aysha said.

Grace - YLF 2001 Delegate

Grace graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in 2002 and is currently attending Guiford College in Greensboro North Carolina. Grace plans on pursuing a career in political science and business management. She works part time in the admissions office at Guilford College. When she isn't busy studying she enjoys softball, surfing, spending time with friends and attending church.
"The YLF has meant a lot to me. It taught me about leadership and showed me the world of options I can take in life," said Grace.

Meneisha - YLF 2000 Delegate

Meneisha graduated from high school in the spring of 2002, and she is currently attending Brevard Community College. She would like to pursue a career that will enable her to work with children. Meneisha is currently a cashier at Publix Supermarket. When she has free time, Meneisha enjoys watching soaps, shopping and hanging out with friends.
Meneisha said an important lesson she learned at YLF was, "That even though you have a disability, you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it."
