July 22, 2005 - Florida Youth Leadership Forum
Students with disabilities are learning leadership skills this week at the State Capitol.
More than 50 high schools students from across Florida are taking part in a youth leadership forum. The students are selected for their talents and achievements. This week they are focusing on what they can do to improve life for everyone who lives with a disability.
As they approach the challenges in life, they still give back. They know it's my part of the state, the leadership and are giving back to communities and that's what today is really all about. says Lt. Governor Toni Jennings (R-Florida)
I had problems and I don't want if I have to go through it, I don't want someone else to have to go through it. If I can fix or work on fixing it at first so they don't have to go through it, I'd rather do that so they can have it. says disabled student Rocky Castro.
The youth leadership forum is the "Able Trust" organization. The organization not only mentors those with disabilities, it also encourages employers to hire them.
