Under the auspices of the Florida Governor's Alliance of the Employment of Citizens with Disabilities, The Able Trust initiates several projects to educate employers and provide them with resources for hiring people with disabilities. One such initiative is the Florida Business Leadership Network, where over 600 Florida employers participate in a variety of activities and communication efforts to ensure the inclusion of people with disabilities in their business practices.
As a continued effort to ensure The Able Trust is meeting the needs of employers and addressing current disability hiring trends, The Able Trust will launch a statewide employer study in 2003 to evaluate businesses' experiences with employees with disabilities, identify barriers to employment for these individuals, and determine resources employers use and need to initiate a disability hiring policy. The goal is to determine how The Able Trust and its Business Leadership Network can work together with Florida employers to overcome these barriers and increase employment opportunities for Florida's 500,000 unemployed citizens with disabilities.
A statewide Business Advisory Council representing key Florida employers and industry representatives has been organized to help with the development, implementation and promotion of the statewide study.
The Able Trust anticipates releasing the results of the study this fall.
