Beginning in February, over 2 million Social Security beneficiaries will be invited to participate in the new Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program and receive training, rehabilitation and employment-related services as they make decisions to enter/re-enter the workplace.
Under this program, Social Security beneficiaries with disabilities will obtain employment, vocational rehabilitation (VR) or other support services from public and private providers. These providers, called Employment Networks can receive a dollar value for up to five years for every eligible individual for whom they provide jobs and/or services (or service coordination) as long as that individual is employed and remains employed according to the Program requirements.
The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is a national initiative, beginning in thirteen states: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont and Wisconsin. Later in 2002, SSA will extend the program to the District of Columbia and the following 20 states: Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Implementation of the Program will be completed in all 50 states by early 2004.
