Preconference Forum for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses - Technology in the Workplace:

The Key to Expanding Your Labor Pool

This forum, sponsored by the President's Committee's Employer Subcommittee, is designed for owners of This forum, sponsored by the President's Committee Employer Subcommittee, is designed for small and medium-sized businesses, human resources managers, and front-line supervisors. It will focus how assistive technology can expand the potential labor pool to include qualified persons with disabilities who may require workplace accommodations. The session will provide information on finding World Wide Web sites that list resources on disability and workplace issues. The use of search engines and the Job Accommodation Network's DIAL-JAN service will be demonstrated. Successful assistive technology strategies will be explored, with the emphasis on low cost and low-tech solutions. In addition, interviewing potential applicant-, with disabilities will be discussed. Attendance is free. Materials and refreshments will be provided. Preconference Symposium on Labor Issues

The Subcommittee on Labor of the President's Committee, in conjunction with the AFL-CIO, will hold a Symposium on how labor unions can successfully integrate and accommodate workers with disabilities, and be effective advocates for injured workers who wish to continue working. Information will be provided on technological solutions to workplace issues involving employees with disabilities. The symposium will be held on Tuesday, May 5. Attendance is open to all. "Welcome to New Orleans" Event

Join us on Tuesday evening, May 5, to meet old and new friends and learn a little about the exciting city of New Orleans. Get all of the information you need before heading out for a night on the town!

Employment Fair

The Employment Fair will be held on Friday, May 8, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Its aim is to bring together employers and job candidates with disabilities for their mutual benefit.

Employers: Participating employers will have the opportunity to meet and interview job applicants with disabilities to fill job openings in their companies. Last year's Fair attracted over 70 recruiters and more than 850 job candidates. Candidates: There is no charge for job applicants with disabilities to attend the Employment Fair. Candidates should bring a supply of resumes and be prepared to discuss their qualifications with employers.
