PRESIDENT'S COMMITTEE ON EMPLOYMENT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ANNOUNCES INTERNET FEATURE LINKING JOB SEEKERS AND EMPLOYERS

(Washington, DC -- April 10, 1998) Businesses that post job openings on their Web sites and are interested in recruiting employees with disabilities now have another advertising resource available to them -- the "Job Links" page on the Web site of the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

"Businesses constantly tell us that, while they recognize the merits of a diverse workforce, they don't know where to find qualified job applicants with disabilities. Job Links offers companies one way to reach out to this labor pool," said President's Committee Chairman Tony Coelho.

The President's Committee provides direct Internet links to the employment pages of employers that request to be on this site. The list ranges from large companies such as IBM Corporation and Procter & Gamble to private organizations such as the American Red Cross to government agencies such as the Department of Defense.

In addition, Job seekers with disabilities now have one more way to target employers who are actively recruiting a diversified workforce. Visitors to the new "Job Links" area of the President's Committee's Web site may take advantage of Internet links to job openings posted at the sites of participating businesses and organizations.

Job Links is available through the President's Committee's home page at www.pcepd.gov or directly at www.pcepd.gov/joblinks.htm. Employers listed -- which range from corporations to private organizations to government agencies -- are actively seeking qualified employees with disabilities and have requested to be on this site. Employers who wish to be listed on Job Links need only provide Web site and mailing address information for posting. The President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities is a small federal agency based in Washington, DC. The Committee's mission is to communicate, coordinate and promote public and private efforts to enhance the employment of people with disabilities. The Committee provides information, training and technical assistance to America's business leaders, organized labor, rehabilitation and service providers, advocacy organizations, families and individuals with disabilities. It also operates the Job Accommodation Network (JAN), a toll-free information service.
