The Able Trust Welcomes New Members to its Board of DirectorsHabitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County

The Able Trust proudly welcomes new members to the foundation’s Board of Directors. Sheila Elyse Buchbinder, MD, Barbara Gill MacArthur, James Saunders, Ph.D., and James Spencer took the Oath of Office at a ceremony in Miami, FL., on September 11, 2008, along with other Directors. As official board members, they have committed to uphold The Able Trust’s mission and initiatives, including statewide grant programs, employer outreach, public education and public awareness activities. Each brings with them a wealth of experience in their respective fields.

Dr. Sheila Buchbinder
Dr. Buchbinder joins the Board of directors with extensive experience as a board-certified obstetrician gynecologist. Alongside her private practice specializing in laparoscopic surgery, she has acted as a consultant both at the state and federal level in relation to women’s healthcare issues. She teaches and publishes on laparoscopic surgery and owns a medical technologies company. She has also received the American Woman’s Medical Association and Lang Medical Publication awards. Dr. Buchbinder also serves on the committee for The Able Trust’s annual fund raising gala at Mar-a-Lago.

Barbara Gill MacArthur
Barbara Gill MacArthur, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH), directs nearly half of TMH’s 3,300 associates in providing care for patients in Florida’s eighth largest hospital. In March 2008, Barbara was named one of the “25 Top Business Women” in Tallahassee. As a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist, MacArthur combined excellence in practice with active involvement in the public policy arena - serving on the Texas Governor’s Commission on Women and the Cardiovascular Disease Council in Texas. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri and her Master’s degree in nursing from the University of Kansas.

Jim Saunders
Jim Saunders has extensive experience in media management. Currently, he serves as the President and CEO of SunCoast II: The Tampa Bay School of Massage Therapy, LLC and is co- owner and manager of J. Saunders & Associates, a broad-based media consulting firm. Jim has 25 years of experience managing television stations from California to Florida. He also spent seven years at Ohio University as Associate Professor and Director of the School of radio and Television. He earned his Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate degrees from Ohio University.

James L. Spencer
James L. Spencer is the chairman of Spencer International Advisors, Inc. and has been an investment executive for 46 years. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hillsdale College and served two years in the U.S. Army. Since moving to Florida in 1958, he has been actively involved in the advancement of persons with disabilities by serving the Abilities Foundation of Florida, Morton Plant Hospital Foundation, Hospice of the Florida Suncoast and the Upper Pinellas Associates for retarded Citizens.
