The Able Trust President & CEO, Dr. Susanne Homant, was recently appointed to a newly established statewide taskforce on autism that was created by Governor Charlie Crist. The Task Force on Autism Spectrum Disorders was established to study the challenges that the growing number of Floridians with autism face and to uncover solutions to assist these individuals and their families.
The 21-member task force is made up of healthcare professionals, leaders in the autism advocacy and treatment community. Retired Miami Dolphins football star Dan Marino will co-chair the task force with Jane Johnson, director of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities.
Since 1992, The Able Trust has awarded nearly $4.3 million in grants supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, which includes autism. In addition, the Foundation serves a number of young adults with autism-related disabilities through its four youth programs.
