More Than $450,000 Awarded in Grants During the First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2008
The Able Trust recently awarded $454,682 in grant funds during the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2008 to 12 nonprofit agencies across the state of Florida. Grants will assist these organizations with implementing programs to employ individuals with disabilities. The awarded agencies are as follows:
- American Alliance for People with Disabilities, (Broward County) in the amount of $35,000 for the Addressing Legal Issues Project, which assists individuals with disabilities who have obtained criminal records in securing employment. The project seeks to employ and offer career support in an effort to decrease the number of repeat offenses among program participants.
- Deaf and Hearing Connection for Tampa Bay, Inc., (Pinellas and Hillsborough counties) in the amount of $36,200 to establish a Community Resource Trainer (CRT) that will help individuals with hearing impairments in gaining and maintaining employment in the community through specialized programs.
- Heron-Peacock Supported Living (Monroe County) in the amount of $34,480 for the Building Bridges program, which provides supported employment services to individuals with mental illness who are seeking employment.
- Independence Living Resource Center of Northeast Florida (Duval County) in the amount of $25,000 to provide disability sensitivity training to businesses in Duval, Baker, Clay, Nassau and St. JohnÕs counties that are interested in employing and mentoring individuals with disabilities.
- Jewish Association for Residential Care (Palm Beach County) in the amount of $50,000 to provide supported employment services for individuals with disabilities who need additional assistance in gaining and maintaining employment in the community.
- Mental Health Association of Palm Beach County (Palm Beach County) in the amount of $35,000 for the Pre-employment Essentials and Resources (PEER) Program, which will aid individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in gaining and maintaining employment in their community.
- Quest, Inc. (Orange County) in the amount of $45,080 to fund an employment specialist position to establish relationships with the business community and to assist individuals with resume construction, interview preparation and follow-up review.
- Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service of South Palm Beach County, Inc., (Palm Beach County) in the amount of $40,522 to help fund the Occupation and Life Skills Training program, which will assist participants in developing career and life long goals.
- St. Andrew Bay Center (Bay County) in the amount of $34,500 for the supported work training program, which provides employment training, experience and ultimately job placement for individuals with disabilities who are currently participants in the Adult Day Training.
- Stand Among Friends (Palm Beach County) in the amount of $41,960 to provide employment placement assistance and follow-along services to graduates and students of Florida Atlantic University with neurological disabilities.
- Tri-County Community Council, Inc., (Holmes, Jackson, Walton and Washington counties) in the amount of $33,940 to provide a Disability Employment Services Coordinator to provide employment assistance in the rural four county area.
- Van Gogh's Palette, Inc., (Pinellas County) in the amount of $43,500 to expand and sustain a comprehensive supportive employment program tailored to meet the employment needs of individual participants with severe and persistent mental illness.
