The Florida Grantor, Summer 2007
Over $2 Million Awarded in Grants During the Fourth Quarter of Fiscal Year 2007
The Able Trust recently awarded $481,257 in grants during the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2007 to nonprofit agencies across the state of Florida. Grant awards from this quarter helped the Foundation reach a significant milestone of awarding over $2 million for fiscal year 2007, and a record $20 million in grant giving since its establishment in 1990
Grants will assist these organizations with the employment of people with disabilities. The awarded agencies are as follows:
- ARC of Martin County, Inc., (Martin County) in the amount of $25,000 to provide additional staff to expand capacity to deliver supported employment services for individuals with disabilities and their communities.
- Big Bend Business Leadership Network, Inc., (Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla Counties) in the amount of $65,000 to expand an internship program providing individuals with disabilities a meaningful a employment experience in their fields of interest.
- Easter Seals, (Volusia and Flagler Counties) in the amount of $35,000 to secure a Deaf Advocate who will facilitate communication during the employment process to assist clients who are deaf meet their employment goals.
- Echo Outreach Ministries, (Leon County) in the amount of $36,000 to expand the Jubilee Job Link program to provide more supportive services for individuals with disabilities who want to obtain employment.
- Florida Lions Conklin Centers for the Blind, (Volusia County) in the amount of $35,000 to provide supported employment services to individuals who are blind and have a significant secondary disability.
- Florida State University, (Leon County) in the amount of $34,809 to create an interviewing and employment skills curriculum to assist individuals with Asperger's and High Functioning Autism in gaining employment.
- Goodwill Foundation, (Sarasota County) in the amount of $150,000 for a two-year project to provide job coaches to help students entering the workforce gain success in obtaining and retaining a job.
- North Florida School, (Duval County) in the amount of $20,000 to provide an intensive retail training skills program with placement for transition age students with disabilities.
- Rotary Youth Camp, Inc. (Leon and Gadsden Counties) in the amount of $10,000 to support a first job opportunity for youth with disabilities to be a peer counselor at the Summer Camp.
- The Center for Independence, Inc., (Pasco County) in the amount of $34,856 to provide a transitional program to assist young adults, who are aging out of the school system, with gaining employment skills and placement in their community.
- The University of North Florida, (St. John and Clay Counties) in the amount of $35,592 to provide a customized transition program for individuals with disabilities who have "aged-out" from the public school system and want to continue educational and employment opportunities.
