Community Leaders Join The Able Trust in Celebration of Grant Awards

The Able Trust recently awarded Ability 1st; a Tallahassee- based non-profit organization that supports individuals with disabilities, $21,082 in grant funds during the second quarter of the 2007 fiscal year.

On Wednesday January 10, 2007, The Able Trust President and CEO presented Ability 1st grant funding to support The Ability 1st Disability Sensitivity Training Initiative-an outreach program that provides information and training to Tallahassee public and private sector businesses who are interested in supporting youth with disabilities. State Representative Curtis Richardson was also in attendance to show his commitment to citizens with disabilities.

The primary goal of The Disability Sensitivity Training Initiative is to offer supportive diversity training to local businesses and government offices that are interested in mentoring or employing youth with disabilities in the Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties.

In addition, on April 5, 2007, West Palm Beach County Mayor, Lois Frankel, joined The Able Trust as it awarded the Gratitude House, Inc, in Palm Beach, $51,000 in grant funds. The Gratitude House, Inc. is a non-profit organization that supports the treatment and recovery of women in the South Florida community.

Grant funding will support the establishment of the Vocational Education Program. This program is designed to help women in Palm Beach County develop job skills and secure employment during the recovery of alcoholic and other forms of chemical dependency.

The program will also feature a Vocational Counseling Specialist who will be responsible for the final phase of the recovery program - gaining and securing employment for the program participants. To learn more about The Able Trust Grant programs, visit www.abletrust.org.
