The Florida Grantor, Summer 2006

President’s Message

July wrapped up the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 06 for The Able Trust. The Foundation has now successfully granted over $18 million to nonprofit agencies in Florida, over $1.1 million this year alone, to fund employment programs for people with disabilities. The Able Trust has made many great accomplishments during this past Fiscal Year and we already have great things to look forward to in the future.

First, I would like to welcome our newest board member to The Able Trust, Jeannie Amendola. Jeannie is a 17 year veteran with the Walt Disney World Co. We are thrilled to have her join The Able Trust’s Board of Directors and look forward to the contributions she will make to the Foundation.

We are already in the midst of planning for the ninth annual gala at Mar-a-Lago which is scheduled for March 16, 2007. The Sunset on the Savannah: An African Adventure Gala is being chaired by Edward and Leslie Sacks of Jupiter. The gala committee is diligently working to create another entertaining evening to benefit The Able Trust.

We are also anticipating the statewide activities for Disability Mentoring Day, which is October 18, 2006. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to get involved by becoming a workplace mentor to a student or job seeker with a disability. To find out if there is a community liaison in your area who is recruiting mentors, visit www.floridadmd.org.

Please check our website, www.abletrust.org, often to keep up-to-date about the Foundation’s exciting activities that are making a difference in the lives of youth and adults with disabilities.

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in another outstanding year at The Able Trust. We truly appreciate your efforts in providing employment opportunities to Floridians with disabilities.
