Marc Buoniconti to Serve as the 2006 Disability Mentoring Day Honorary Chair

The Florida Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) Statewide Committee is excited to announce that Marc Buoniconti, son of legendary All-Pro and Hall of Fame linebacker and former Miami Dolphin Nick Buoniconti, will serve as the 2006 Florida DMD Honorary Chair. This year Florida and the Nation will commemorate DMD on October 18.

Marc serves as Ambassador for the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis and president of the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, the Miami Project’s international fundraising arm. During a football game in 1985, Marc sustained a spinal cord injury so severe that it left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Since then, Marc’s mission has been to find a cure for paralysis. Since the Buoniconti’s formed the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, they have been instrumental in raising over $150 million for The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

With the 2006 Honorary Chair secured, now is a great time to get involved in DMD. The Florida Statewide Planning Committee is currently accepting applications for individuals interested in serving as Community Liaisons. DMD Community Liaisons facilitate matchmaking experiences between student and job seeker mentees and business mentors in their local communities. These experiences range from one-on-one job shadowing to worksite group visits where mentees learn first-hand about different types of jobs and related opportunities within that career field or workplace. People who have connections to students and/or job seekers with disabilities serve as local Community Liaisons. Last year, over 100 people served as Community Liaisons, representing 42 cities in Florida.
