The National Dropout Prevention Center/Network, the Florida Department of Education, Florida's 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the Florida Association of Alternative School Educators, along with Communities In Schools of Florida have joined together to host the "2007 Effective Strategies Institute on Dropout Prevention: Planting Seeds of Promise: Reaching, Teaching and Engaging." This conference is scheduled for January 16-19, 2007 at the Belleview Biltmore Resort in Clearwater, Florida. The conference features a series of seminars designed to address such topics as: the achievement gap among students; techniques to encourage successful student performance and strategies for programs relating to student attendance and more. The Disabled Sports USA offers sports and recreation opportunities to people with disabilities at 85 chapters throughout the United States. The Able Trust has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP #07-5) aimed at assisting 501(c)(3) organizations with providing employment support to Native Americans with disabilities in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties. The Able Trust will award up to $40,700 in grant funding to support 1 to 2 projects. Established Florida not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to submit a proposal, which outlines a project that will lead to competitive employment for Native Americans with disabilities in these counties. Projects should serve a minimum of 15 individuals and result in an 80% community employment outcome. The deadline to submit proposals is February 7, 2007.
