The Florida Grantor, Fall 2006

President's Message

As we welcome this New Year, The Able Trust looks forward to a year of exciting beginnings & milestones. With nearly 60% of our workforce still unemployed, The Able Trust continues to diligently support employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. We will continue to strive for the additional growth of The Able Trust Grants and Youth programs.

This year's Florida Disability Mentoring Day commemorated five years of involvement for The Able Trust. This annual event partnered more than 1,000 mentors and mentees throughout Florida. Many thanks are given to DMD Celebration Honorary Chair Marc Buoniconti who gave his time and energy to support the 2006 DMD. Additional applause goes to the 2006 DMD sponsors, organizing committees, community liaisons, mentors and mentees and parents.

This year we are also proud to have awarded, more than $2 million in grants to agencies across Florida to initiate or enhance employment programs for people with disabilities. Today, The Able Trust's total grant awards amount to more than $19 million.

We also look forward to working with our new executive committee and recently appointed board members to implement the Foundation's new strategic plan. We are pleased to have such a diverse group of individuals helping The Able Trust achieve our mission. We hope you have the opportunity to meet these individuals at our upcoming events and activities in the New Year.

We would like to thank all of the supporters and participants that have made The Able Trust's accomplishments possible. We look forward to a new year of offering more resources and programs to increase employment opportunities for Florida citizens with disabilities. Thank you again & Happy New Year!
