The Able Trust is pleased to announce the new additions to our staff.
Jennifer Craig has been hired as the new Public Relations and Events Specialist. Craig is responsible for assisting with planning and implementing The Able Trust’s special events and coordinating media and other public relations activities for the Foundation. She recently graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University with a degree in Communication, where she was named the “Outstanding Public Relations Student of the Year.” She can be reached at jennifer@abletrust.org.
Tina Harwood has also been brought on as the new Secretary for The Able Trust. She will be in charge of phone reception and office administration duties. She previously worked for the Florida Department of Health in the Bureau of Radiation Control. She can be reached at tina@abletrust.org.
The Able Trust is excited about the recent High School/High Tech (HS/HT) expansion, allowing the Foundation to hire Cat Keen as the HS/HT Program Manager. Keen will be assisting the State Coordinator in strengthening existing HS/HT programs and developing new HS/HT programs in Florida. Keen worked with Ability 1st for three years as the HS/HT coordinator for Tallahassee, which was recently named the 2005 HS/HT Project of the Year. She was also the HS/HT supervisor of Taylor County. Keen is a recent graduate of Florida State University’s Masters of Social Work Program and received her degree in Social Policy Administration. She can be reached at cat@abletrust.org.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Assistant Secretary Roy Grizzard announced the creation of a comprehensive template of guidelines that helps federal agencies integrate the needs of workers with disabilities into emergency preparedness plans. The template called “Preparing the Workplace for Everyone,” was developed by the Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities’ Workplace Subcommittee, chaired by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP).
ODEP has also launched a new web page filled with additional resources on emergency preparedness including the “Preparing the Workplace for Everyone” template. To access those resources, visit www.dol.gov/odep/.
The Job Accommodation Network (JAN) will host its annual conference September 26-27 in San Francisco. The conference will focus on how to recruit and hire people with disabilities, how to provide cost-efficient accommodations and the laws encompassing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
