The Able Trust reached another set of milestones during the 2005 fiscal year. The Foundation successfully awarded $1.7 million in grants this year to agencies and individuals in Florida that are dedicated to helping people with disabilities gain meaningful employment. The Able Trust has now given over $16 million in grants since 1992. Our youth programs such as the Youth Leadership Forum, High School/High Tech and Disability Mentoring Day are continuously successful after much planning, hard work and commitment from everyone involved.
We are very enthusiastic about the new fiscal year. This year The Able Trust will be partnering with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to start and strengthen new High School/High Tech (HS/HT) sites around Florida. In 2005, more than 500 young adults with disabilities were served by HS/HT, and the partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will allow us to grow that number even more.
July marked the 15th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This is a good reminder of the advances we have made over the years. We are proud to continue aiding people with disabilities in finding employment through our grants, public awareness and fundraising programs. We look forward to the coming year as we continue to make advancements in the disability community.
