At the close of the 2005 Fiscal Year fourth quarter, The Able Trust awarded grants to seven nonprofit agencies and one individual to assist with the employment of Floridians with disabilities. The total amount of grants this quarter reached $307,436. The following organizations received funding to enact employment programs in their area:
Abilities, Inc. of Florida, Pinellas County, in the amount of $44,805 to provide expanded job placement services for individuals with disabilities who are homeless.
Achievement and Rehabilitation Centers (ARC Broward), Broward County, in the amount of $45,820 to expand its commercial kitchen and add a certified culinary instructor who will provide clients with disabilities real culinary work experience to prepare them for job placement within the restaurant industry.
Brevard Achievement Center, Brevard County, in the amount of $38,871 to hire an internship coordinator who will work with students with learning disabilities by establishing a continuum of employment experiences for the students’ vocational needs.
Deaf Service Bureau of West Central Florida, Hillsborough, Pasco and Orange Counties, in the amount of $45,278 to hire a Spanish-speaking employment placement staff to assist Hispanic individuals with disabilities in the three-county area with gaining employment.
Epilepsy Association of Central Florida, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Brevard Counties, in the amount of $33,295 to provide a community-based work placement and skills training program for individuals with epilepsy.
Sickle Cell Disease Association of Broward County, Broward County, in the amount of $64,417 to provide job readiness training and employability opportunities for individuals with sickle cell anemia.
Working Innovations, Inc., Palm Beach County, in the amount of $34,500 to assist individuals with disabilities with setting up micro-enterprises.
