Dr. George Louis Spelios was a founding director and past chair of The Able Trust. A true advocate for Florida citizens with disabilities, Dr. Spelios touched the lives of many through his passion and commitment to serve people in need. In addition to his leadership and volunteerism for The Able Trust’s mission, Dr. Spelios was instrumental in founding Sunrise Community, a nonprofit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
As a tribute to his years of dedication and service to Florida’s disability community, The Able Trust has established the “Dr. George L. Spelios Leadership Award.” This award will recognize an Executive Director or President of a Florida 501 (c)(3) disability organization for his or her outstanding leadership and advocacy for Floridians with disabilities at the local and state level.
The inaugural recipient of the “Dr. George L. Spelios Leadership Award” will be honored at The Able Trust “Mojitos at Midnight” Gala on March 25, 2006. Mrs. Joyce Spelios will join The Able Trust Chair during the award presentation.
The award recipient will receive two complimentary tickets to the gala and $300 in award monies, as well as recognition from Governor Jeb Bush for his or her outstanding leadership and service.
Nominations are due by December 21, 2005. All nominations will be judged by an impartial Ability Awards selection committee. Staff and Board of Directors of The Able Trust are not eligible to apply. Self-nominations are allowed.
