The successful fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2004 kept The Able Trust staff busy both in and out of the office.
This summer marked the fifth year of the Youth Leadership Forum (YLF), where almost 70 young adults with disabilities came together to develop their own personal leadership skills. Thanks to the support of many sponsors, including the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, the YLF was again a huge success.
The Able Trust ended the fiscal year in June with over $376,000 in grant awards to eight nonprofit agencies. In addition, we recently awarded $328,000 in grants to expand Florida’s High School/High Tech (HS/HT) program, adding four new sites and continuing 12 others. An orientation is planned for HS/HT project directors in mid September to help each of them prepare for a successful year with their students.
For continuing projects, The Able Trust has furthered its partnership with the Florida Chambers of Commerce and is working to promote the results of our Employer Study statewide. And the Bikers Care Tag is now available for purchase in all counties.
In the meantime, The Able Trust looks forward to a busy fall quarter, with several special events planned. Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) is set for October 20, and The Able Trust is pleased to have George Koehn, President and CEO of SunTrust Banks, Florida, as honorary chairman of the statewide planning committee. Also, our annual Gala at the Mar-a-Lago club is on November 6, with National Baseball League Hall of Famer Mr. Jim Palmer serving as the Gala’s Honorary Chairman.
