The Florida Grantor, Summer 2004
The Able Trust Awards Over $376,000 to End the 2004 Fiscal Year
The Able Trust awarded $376,165 in grants to eight nonprofit organizations during the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2004. These agencies received funding for the following programs:
- The ARC of Palm Beach County (Palm Beach County), in the amount of $32,750 to employ a job coach to provide full follow along services to individuals with disabilities desiring employment;
- The ARC of Putnam County (Putnam County), in the amount of $53,207 to employ eight job developers to provide transitioning services for individuals with disabilities entering into their first jobs;
- CARD – Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (Hillsborough County), in the amount of $29,487 to provide technical assistance, training, resources and networking for community rehabilitation providers;
- Community Rehabilitation Center, Inc. (Duval County), in the amount of $57,098 to provide career placement support, job coaching and on-the-job training to individuals with mental illness, HIV/AIDS or drug and alcohol addiction;
- Quest, Inc. (Orange County), in the amount of $44,525 to employ a job developer who will act as a liaison between community businesses and individuals with disabilities seeking employment;
- Southwest Florida Addiction Services, Inc. (Lee County), in the amount of $39,098 to provide job training and placement for individuals with mental disabilities who are recovering from drug or alcohol addiction;
- The Spina Bifida Association of Jacksonville, Inc. (Union, Liberty, Lafayette and Hamilton counties), in the amount of $45,000 to provide employment services to individuals with Spina Bifida in the underserved counties of Union, Liberty, Lafayette and Hamilton; and
- United Ceberal Palsy of Northwest Florida, Inc. (Escambia County), in the amount of $65,000 to employ a Job Developer to assist in creating employment opportunities for people with disabilities and to help fund the existing transition program.
The Spina Bifida Association of Jacksonville’s grant marks the first time The Able Trust has given a grant to individuals or an agency in Union, Liberty, Lafayette and Hamilton counties. In doing so, The Able Trust has reached a milestone of serving all 67 Florida counties through its agency grants program. It currently awards approximately $2 million each year to individuals with disabilities and nonprofit agencies that support employment-related programs for people with disabilities throughout Florida.
