Message from the Chair

I am truly honored to serve as The Able Trust’s Chair for a second term. The Board of Directors is an extraordinary group of volunteers, and I’m proud to continue working with each of them over the next two years.

We recently held an incredible Gala at Mar-a-Lago. Guests felt the energy and excitement as we enchanted them with the allure of Asia. “Under the Mandarin Moon” was a huge success, and attendees were saying it was the best gala to date.

Thanks to our sponsors and amazing silent and live auctions, we exceeded our fundraising goal, which I’m proud to announce reached over $300,000.

Our Ambassador program continues to grow with the addition of five new members: Jason Havens of Havens & Miller, PLLC; Tommy Mayes of Wachovia Wealth Foundation; Madelyn Passarella of JFK Medical Center; Captain Winston Scott of Florida Space Authority; and Jim Palmer, former pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles. We welcome these talented individuals and look forward to working with each of you.

The New Year is an excellent time to get involved with The Able Trust. If you’re a nonprofit agency, be sure to visit the Knowledge Center at www.abletrust.org and learn how to benefit from our grants program. If you are an employer, take advantage of the free membership in the Business Leadership Network and stay informed about the latest disability hiring issues. Or, if you have an interest in youth, contact our staff about volunteering at the Youth Leadership Forum next summer, or serving on a local planning committee for Disability Mentoring Day.
