The Able Trust Celebrates Ten Years of Grant Making in 2002 - A $10 Million Achievement

January marked a milestone achievement for The Able Trust, who celebrated a 10 year anniversary of awarding over $10 million in grants to the disability community in an effort to foster employment opportunities.

The 10-year anniversary celebration kicked off with a reception held in Tallahassee on March 7, in which over 100 friends and supporters gathered to wish the Foundation well. Special honors were awarded during the reception to Lt. Governor Frank Brogan, Senator Steve Wise, Representative Chris Hart, Senator Donald Sullivan and Able Trust Director Wendy Spencer. VSA Arts of Florida performers Walter Billingsley and Nicholas Demasky provided the entertainment for the evening.

"We're so thrilled to have so many people come out to support us," said Able Trust Chair Eladio Amores. "We constantly strive to provide the highest quality services to Florida's disability community through all of our programs, including agency and individual grants. We're proud of how far we've come."

The yearlong activities will include a statewide public service campaign of television, radio and print media to inform employers about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Other activities will include a special celebrations during the Youth Leadership Forum in July and the Ability Awards in September. The celebration will culminate in November with the Trust's statewide fundraising Gala at The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.

Governor Jeb Bush joined The Able Trust in celebrating this milestone achievement of awarding $10 million in grants. "I am proud of the accomplishments The Able Trust has achieved in just ten years," said Governor Bush. "Because of their quality of work and commitment, Florida's two million citizens with disabilities now have better opportunities than ever before."
