Message from the Chair

With the recent tragedies taking place in our country, it has given many of us a time to reflect on the support we can offer to so many people in need.

The Able Trust was extremely proud to see the tremendous response and support at our recent gala at Mar-a-Lago. Guests came from across Florida to show an outpouring of support for Floridians with disabilities. Patriotism was truly prevalent during the event through several auction donations. Thanks to Governor Jeb Bush, The Able Trust auctioned off an authentic U.S. Flag that flew over Florida's Capitol during Operation Enduring Freedom. As a result, funds raised from this year's auction were more than doubled from the 2000 gala, bringing the total proceeds from the event to over $250,000 for the Trust's endowment and our participating agencies.

The Able Trust is also making internal changes as a result of September 11th. Staff is currently working on an intensive crisis communications plan and policies are being drafted to ensure that all materials are safeguarded and properly secured in the event of an emergency.

On a lighter note, staff is also preparing for the Trust's upcoming 10th anniversary celebration. The year 2002 will mark the 10th year of grant-making for the Foundation, and we have already reached a significant milestone of awarding over $10 million in grants to date. We have an exciting agenda planned for the year, so we look forward to having each of you help us celebrate this achievement.
