The YLF is a statewide leadership conference for high school juniors and seniors with disabilities. Student delegates were selected from around the state for their demonstrated leadership potential to represent the state in terms of geography, gender, ethnicity and types of disabilities.
The forum will involve small "working groups" that will explore personal leadership and career plans, social, artistic and recreational activities. Guest speakers will address topics such as disability rights law, postsecondary opportunities, and resources at all levels. A guided tour of the Florida Capitol will involve interaction with members of the press and government dignitaries. Adults with disabilities who have traveled the same path these young people are facing will serve as presenters and volunteer staff.
Volunteers are still needed to serve as Facilitators/Counselors, Peer Counselors and Program Assistants. Applications for volunteers are available online at www.abletrust.org, or call Kristen Knapp at 888-838-2253.
