Another fiscal year has past and the Trust has made significant strides in both our grant-making and public awareness programs. Over $1.5 million was awarded in grants in Fiscal Year 1999. Several innovative programs were funded during the year, including the Florida High School High Tech program, which aims to prepare high school students with disabilities for careers in the scientific and technology industries. We also funded several employment programs that reflect our cultural diversity initiative, targeting African Americans, Native Americans and the Hispanic community with disabilities.
Many of these programs will be discussed in detail at our annual Symposium on Disabilities in September, where you'll have the opportunity to learn more about applying for a grant, starting a High School High Tech program or developing your agency's endowment. This is an excellent opportunity to network and discuss your challenges and ideas with your peers.
Our annual Ability Awards will take place on September 30, and we encourage you to nominate those individuals who have made significant impact on the employment of persons with disabilities.
In October, Florida will play host to the Employer Subcommittee for the President's Committee. The Able Trust/FGA will be presenting on our Business Leadership Network and High School High Tech Programs to many national employers.
As you can see, fall is a busy time for The Able Trust. Our programs continue to flourish thanks to our many supporters., and we look forward to another year of success for Florida's disability community.
