On November 5-6, the FGA hosted the Regions I-IV National Association of Governor's Committee annual meeting in Tampa, Florida. Representatives from Florida, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and the President's Committee were in attendance. The meeting included an overview of the High School High Tech Program and the Business Leadership Network, as well as a strategy session for the Operations Task Force.
NAGC meets both regionally and nationally and consists of state liaisons to the President's Committee. The Able Trust/FGA serves as Chair of Region IV.
The Florida Business Leadership Network held a strategic planning meeting on November 4 in Tampa to discuss the direction and vision of the new leadership group. The meeting was led by Chair Denis McKinnon, President of First Union National Bank of Florida-Pensacola. Carol Dunlap, BLN liaison for the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, addressed the group on the national agenda for the BLN.
The volunteer steering committee focused on strategies to promote the BLN, recruit members and educate employers on hiring persons with disabilities. IBM, Marriott, Disney, HealthSouth, U.S. Sugar Corporation and the Florida Chamber of Commerce serve as members of the steering committee.
