Approaching this new millennium gives us an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments at The Able Trust. Thus far in 1999, the Trust has granted over $998,021 to 23 agencies and 14 individuals. With the additional grant awards for the December cycle, this will mark yet another year in which The Able Trust grants will exceed over $1 million to support Floridians with disabilities.
In addition to a successful grants program, The Able Trust sponsored several public awareness events, including the Symposium, Ability Awards and Mardi Gras Gala. These special activities provided tremendous networking opportunities and helped promote the employment of people with disabilities to new audiences.
In the coming year, The Able Trust will focus on youth programs, with the Florida Youth Leadership Forum and the continuation of its successful High School High Tech program. The goal is to educate our youth with disabilities on the opportunities available to them in tomorrow's workforce.
We encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and ideas with the foundation in the coming year. Our goal is to provide better resources, more grants and a greater awareness for our agency Friends and the Floridians with disabilities whom they serve. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish you a safe and happy holiday season and look forward to working with you next year as we embark on an exciting new millennium for citizens with disabilities.
