$60,000 in Grant Funding To Aid Veterans with Disabilities in Columbia & Surrounding Counties

The Able Trust awarded grant funding to boost employment opportunities for Florida veterans with disabilities.

Tallahassee, FL-With more than 1.7 million veterans living in Florida and more than 8,000 living in Columbia County, the need to provide employment services to veterans and returning veterans with disabilities in Florida is critical.

In an effort to increase employment opportunities for veterans with disabilities in Florida, The Able Trust, also known as the Florida Governor's Alliance for the Employment of Citizens with Disabilities, awarded a total of $60,000 to Florida Crown Workforce Board, Inc. — an organization supporting Florida veterans with disabilities in Columbia and surrounding counties.

On Friday, June 6, 2008, The Able Trust will present Florida Crown Workforce Board, Inc. a $60,000, grant award in support of the organization's employment program for Veterans with Disabilities. Grant funding will assist Florida Crown Workforce Board, Inc. in expanding its services within its ENABLE (Enhanced Network Assistance Bringing Learning and Employment) Program.

Florida Crown Workforce Board, Inc. is one of nine organizations throughout the state that were granted $60,000 in funding over a one-or-two-year grant period During the third quarter of Fiscal Year 2008, The Able Trust awarded a total of $540,000 to nine organizations throughout Florida to support Florida veterans with disabilities in fulfilling their employment goals.

Since 1992, The Able Trust has awarded more than $22 million in grant funding to individuals and not-for-profit organizations throughout Florida for employment-related purposes, enabling more than 2,000 Florida citizens with disabilities to enter the workforce each year. In Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist and Union Counties, The Able Trust has awarded more than $440,000 in grant funding to non-profit agencies that support employment-related programs for people with disabilities.

The Able Trust awards grants to nonprofit agencies that provide direct employment support to persons with disabilities and to individuals with disabilities for on-the-job accommodations or assistance to gain, retain or receive a promotion in employment.
