Florida hopes to achieve an introduction to the business community for young people with disabilities and to foster Mentoring relationships that can lead to gainful employment and/or lasting personal relationships. Students and job seekers with disabilities are matched with workplace Mentors according to career interests, enabling students to learn more about what a job is like day-to-day and how to prepare for such a career.

DMD in Florida is organized by a collaborative partnership of The Able Trust, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and other statewide partners. The committee raises sponsorship dollars to underwrite DMD activities in Florida, enabling students and job seekers to expand their career interests and prepare for the workforce and helping employers gain a better understanding of working with people with disabilities and a better focus on their abilities.

The committee provides support to local Community Liaisons located throughout Florida who coordinate the matchmaking experience between Mentors and Mentees. Get Involved in DMD to find a Community Liaison in your area. If you do not have a Community Liaison in your area but are still interested in participating in DMD, contact The Able Trust at 888.838.2253 or email Kristen@abletrust.org to find out how.
