Florida DMD Florida Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) is part of a national, broad-based effort to promote career development through hands-on career exploration, job shadowing and internship or employment opportunities. Students and job seekers are matched with employers for an on-site job shadowing experience. DMD is commemorated the third Wednesday of October, in conjunction with National Disability Employment Awareness Month. How Can I Get Involved? Join the Disability Mentoring Day Team in your community, participate as a Local Community Liaison, Employer Mentor, Student/Job Seeker Participant Community Liaison Do you have connections to students and/or job seekers with disabilities in your community? We need your help. Serve as a local Community Liaison for DMD. Community Liaisons help pair mentees with disabilities with professionals working in their field of interest. Mentees and mentors are paired for one-on-one job shadowing experiences or group visits to worksites where they can learn more about preparing for a particular career. If you would like more information on becoming a Community Liaison, please visitwww.floridadmd.org or call 888.838.2253. Employer Mentor As an Employer Mentor, you can be matched individually with a student or job seeker with a disability so you can share more about your typical workday and provide insight about how to prepare for your particular career field. Your company can also offer a group of mentees a tour of your worksite and have them meet with various employees from different departments to give them insight into job opportunities with your business and your industry. You could play an important role in the career path of a young adult with a disability. If you are interested in learning more about becoming an Employer Mentor, please visit www.floridadmd.org or call 888.838.2253. Are you a student or job seeker with a disability? Disability Mentoring Day offers you the opportunity to evaluate personal goals, target career skills for improvement and explore possible career paths. Participation by students and job seekers in past Disability Mentoring Day events has led to internship opportunities with the host employer, functioned as a first interview resulting in part-time or full-time employment or resulted in a job offer at the end of the DMD experience. Take this opportunity to network with individuals who have already pursued the career track that interests you. Join us each October! Learn more at www.floridadmd.org
