Grove House is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to assist adults with developmental and acquired disabilities in order to maximize their inclusion into the community enabling them to lead more productive, dignified and independent lives.
Grove House began as a dream in 1986. A small group of individuals joined together to plan a residential group home for young adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal was to provide these very special individuals with a safe and secure home and help them to function in their community as independently as their abilities permit. We were aware that there was only a handful of group homes in our community and that the wait to get into one was often unbelievably long. Our efforts were realized as hard work led to necessary funding, required licensing and a functioning program.
Our original program opened in 1993 and is successfully providing a residence and life skills training to individuals with developmental disabilities (below average IQ's) in our group home, licensed as an Adult Living Facility, in Mandarin.
Grove House programming has expanded in the past year to meet the tremendous need for appropriate and affordable residential opportunities for the disabled in our community. We have grown from one program assisting six people to six cost effective and successful programs helping over seventy-five people, a growth rate of over 1000% in four years. We strive to be entrepreneurial, to think "outside the box" and to diversify funding sources as we struggle to meet this need.
We are proud that we are helping our residents acquire better housing, become active and productive community members, increase their independence and enjoy an improved quality of life. We are proud that most of our residents are working, tax-paying citizens. And we are proud that we provide our quality services at a much lower cost than most other programs--- often equal to one week or even one day's care in other settings. But we still have far too many people with compelling needs for housing and housing support services on our waiting lists because of limited funding. Over the past year and a half we have received a hundred referrals to our Brain Injury Program alone. Our financial need is great; not only must we ensure that we have the funds to provide our current residents the long term support they need, but we also need funds to expand our programs to reach other deserving individuals.
