Business Partners

Business partners are instrumental in the success of the High School/High Tech (HS/HT) Program. Partners can assist HS/HT project sites in variety of ways. Below are some of the examples of how businesses are partnering with sites across Florida.

NASA/ Kennedy Space Center

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Kennedy Space Center (NASA/KSC) has been instrumental in the development of High School/High Tech (HS/HT) in Florida. The first Florida HS/HT project site was funded by a grant from NASA/KSC, and implemented in Brevard County at the Space Coast Center for Independent Living in June 1995. Since that time, NASA/KSC has continued to support the program by providing summer internships, hosting corporate site visits and providing numerous resources to HS/HT project sites across Florida. In addition, the Florida Space Grant Consortium (FSGC) provides ongoing support and resources to the Florida HS/HT Program.

Darden Restaurants

Darden Restaurants

Darden Restaurants has teamed up with Orange County Public Schools HS/HT program to develop a customer service training module for students to learn more about and become better prepared for careers in customer service, culinary arts and other service positions in the restaurant industry. Through the training module, students can participate in the following activities:

  • Guest speakers discuss jobs in the restaurant industry, hospitality, customer service
  • Interactive, hands-on customer service training sessions
  • Site tours of Darden Restaurants
  • Job Shadowing opportunities with Darden staff members
  • Six week long paid summer internships for five students

A facilitator is in charge of the customer service training modules. Students receive workbooks, watch relevant videos and review training materials to become better educated about customer service skills, which will assist them in pursuit of not only restaurant industry careers, but other careers as well.
