What's in it for My Students?
High School/High Tech (HS/HT) was designed to provide youth with all types of disabilities the opportunity to explore jobs or postsecondary education leading to technology-related careers. The program has been shown to reduce the high school dropout rate and increase the overall self-esteem of participating students. Nearly 90 percent of HS/HT graduates have enrolled in postsecondary education or training.
Many youth with disabilities lack the confidence in their abilities to improve their lives. This feeling, often reinforced by society, gives students with disabilities low expectations of their abilities. HS/HT offers resources and opportunities that celebrate the abilities of students. Students are placed in settings of high expectations that focus on assets rather than limitations, participate in peer groups and experience welcoming and encouraging atmospheres.
Educators across the state and country are stepping up and advocating for their students with disabilities. Students need inspiring adults, like you, who are willing to guide them in the right direction and encourage them to make informed decisions regarding their futures.
