Become a Workplace Mentor
The Florida Business Leadership Network provides employers with opportunities to help students and job seekers with disabilities build confidence about their own employability, share firsthand job experiences to someone interested in their desired career field, develop lasting Mentee relationships, gain access to a pool of new emerging talent, recruit short- and long-term interns and demonstrate positive leadership in their community.
Mentoring opportunities are available by participating in one of these statewide programs:
Florida Disability Mentoring Day
www.floridadmd.org
Florida DMD is commemorated each October and connects students with disabilities with employers for a one-on-one job shadowing experience to help expose the participants to a variety of career options.
Florida High School/High Tech
www.floridahsht.org
Florida High School/High Tech (HS/HT) encourages high school students with disabilities to explore career opportunities in the fields of science, math, engineering and technology. The program partners with companies to provide students with corporate site visits, career shadowing, summer internships and part-time employment opportunities.
The Able Trust e-Mentoring Program
www.abletrust.org/ementor
In 2005, The Able Trust launched an e-Mentoring Program — where business professionals mentor students with disabilities through weekly e-mail correspondence.
The Able Trust’s e-Mentoring program connects volunteer mentors with
students with disabilities who exchange weekly email correspondence through a
secure server. By sharing their knowledge and expertise, e-Mentors help motivate
and encourage young adults with disabilities, giving them the confidence to strive
for their personal and career goals.
