On Thursday, September 13, 2001, The Able Trust recognized five organizations and one individual at the 2001 Ability Awards Banquet in St. Petersburg. Each winner received a commendation from Governor Jeb Bush and an appropriately inscribed plaque symbolizing each award. Recipients of this statewide achievement will gain high visibility through recognition of their efforts, which will be practical in supporting their program outcomes.
Hyatt Hotels, Tampa/Orlando, was awarded Large Employer of the Year for their outstanding leadership in the employment of persons with disabilities.
Aramark, Inc. of St. Augustine was awarded Small Employer of the Year for their active recruitment of individuals with disabilities from their local ARC.
Jackson County ARC, Marianna, which provides supported employment services, was awarded the Beverly Chapman Award for Outstanding Employment Placement Program.
Sherman "West" Westmoreland, of Jacksonville, whose disability has not stopped the success his three companies, was presented the Award for Outstanding Entrepreneur.
Platinum Interactive, Inc., St. Petersburg, which donated time and production of a CD Business Card to Goodwill Industries-Suncoast, was the 2001 Media Award Recipient - Promotions Category.
ARC Escambia of Pensacola, developed a local public affairs program to educate viewers about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities, has been awarded the 2001 Media Award - Public Relations Category.
