Employers have an important role to play in the e-Mentoring of students. The employer is the best resource from which a dedicated and coordinated volunteer workforce can be organized. Because the employer has an interest in the welfare and quality of life of the community in which it operates and where its employees reside, most businesses encourage volunteerism and provide support to the activities of their employees. Furthermore, because most employers have a vested interest in a future quality workforce, the e-Mentoring of that future workforce is an investment with potential high returns.
Student mentees make a difference because they are the future workforce – inventors, problem solvers, leaders. By engaging in e-Mentoring, students can teach employers and employees about people with disabilities, share ideas with their mentors about how people with disabilities are an important part of society, their community and the workforce.
